When you think of Southern California's culinary scene, authentic barbecue might not be the first thing that springs to mind. Often overshadowed by the BBQ giants of Texas and Tennessee, California's BBQ game has been waiting for its moment to shine. And shine it did, when Heritage Barbecue burst onto the scene in San Juan Capistrano in 2020, redefining the standards for the best Texas-style BBQ in Southern California.
As a proud San Juan Capistrano local, my excitement for Heritage Barbecue is hard to contain. I'm no certified food critic, but after my fair share of BBQ expeditions in Austin, Texas - dining at legends like Terry Black's and Franklin's, I've developed a pretty keen sense for what makes great Texas-style barbecue. And let me tell you, Heritage Barbecue is a game-changer, making it a top contender for the best BBQ in Orange County.
